A panopticon, the shape of the graphic on the back, was a hypothetical prison designed by Jeremy Bentham in which all cells are visible from a central point. From this central point there could be an eye watching you at any moment. The evil eye brings suffering to anyone being watched, or in this case anyone who thinks they are being watched. This is not just a theoretical institutional design anymore, we all know we are being watched, listened to, etc pretty much constantly. The state of being controlled internally by this threat of being watched is called panopticism, a term developed by Michel Foucalt in Discipline & Punish: The Birth of the Prison, 1975.
